Sainna Buba, Borno State commissioner for youth and sports development, has threatened political opponents with punishment if they refuse to support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Buba, an ally of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, made the remarks at a campaign inauguration organised by the Tinubu City Boy Movement, a support group promoting President Bola Tinubu’s administration and his re-election bid.
Speaking at the event, Buba warned those who oppose the government against challenging it.
“Whoever shows us a finger, we are ready to cut off his fingers,” he said. He added: “We are now playing politics. Whoever shows us a finger, we will show him a finger. Whoever dares to show us a finger again, we will break his finger.”
Buba also said supporters of the government would benefit, while those who refused to back it would face punishment.
“The government is our government. Those who follow us will enjoy the honey; if you refuse, then you will be flogged,” he said.
The comments have raised concerns about the language used by a serving government official towards political opponents and have renewed questions about political tolerance and the treatment of dissent in Borno State.
Buba has not clarified whether the remarks were intended literally or as political rhetoric. They come as parties and support groups begin preparations for the 2027 general elections.
