The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old man, identified as Abdulmumini Garba, in connection with the death of a woman whose body was discovered near the Federal University Gashua on October 17, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, on Wednesday, Garba, who serves as the Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Karasuwa Local Government Area and Secretary of the Vegetables Market (Kasuwan Gwari) in Gashua, was apprehended following a discreet investigation by operatives of the Bade Division.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed that he had conveyed the deceased, identified as Falmata Abubakar, 45, of Abasha, Sarkin Hausawa Ward, Gashua, in his vehicle. He allegedly told investigators that an argument broke out when she requested financial assistance to support her business, which escalated and led to her death inside the vehicle.
The suspect further admitted to dumping her body in a nearby bush around 10:00 p.m. that same day — the location where it was later found by residents.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, commended the detectives for their professionalism and swift response, describing the arrest as “a major breakthrough” in the Command’s ongoing drive to strengthen public safety.
He assured that a comprehensive investigation is ongoing and that the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the process.
The Police Command appreciated the cooperation of residents and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to assist security agencies in curbing crime and promoting peace across Yobe State.
