The Yobe State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information, and Culture, Hon. Abdullahi Bego, has reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration to the welfare and empowerment of women and students across the state.
Hon. Bego made the remarks during a courtesy visit by representatives of the Voice of Women in Nigeria Leadership Initiative, led by its Secretary, Hajiya Habiba Adamu, and the National Union of Yobe State Students (NUYOSS), Yobe State University Chapter, led by its Senate President, Comrade Mu’azu Ya’u.
The Commissioner emphasized that Governor Buni sees women as foundational pillars of the family and society, noting that empowering them is critical, especially in the face of economic challenges. He highlighted various government interventions through the Ministry of Wealth Creation, Empowerment and Employment Generation, Ministry of Women Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, and SEMA, all of which have provided platforms for women to become self-reliant and productive.
Bego also assured the women’s delegation of the ministry’s continued support for initiatives that protect the rights and welfare of women and children in the state.
Addressing the students’ delegation, Hon. Bego stressed that education remains central to Governor Buni’s development agenda. He revealed that over 38,000 Yobe State indigenes have benefitted from scholarships since 2019, with support also extended to cover examination fees for WAEC, NECO, and NBAIS.
“Just recently, His Excellency sponsored 127 law graduates to Nigerian Law School, each receiving a laptop and other learning tools,” he added.
Both Hajiya Habiba Adamu and Comrade Mu’azu Ya’u expressed appreciation for the government’s efforts and sought greater collaboration to advance the well-being of women, children, and students in the state.
