Police have repelled an attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Nganzai, a Borno local government area located a few kilometres away from Maiduguri, the state capital.
The incident was reported to have occurred out by the terrorists today around 12:00 pm.
ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, spokesman of the command, in a press statement said ‘Unknown gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists attempted to invade Nganzai Police Division.’
He said police officers who were stationed in the axis responded and repelled the terrorist’s attack after a gun battle.
According to him, after the terrorists were overwhelmed by the troops, they threw hand grenades, which landed on a shelter tent behind the division and fatally wounded two officers and claimed their lives.
The terrorists have in 2024 also attacked the police in the town, with the divisional police officer SP Abdullahi Zannah, leading the defence and capturing some of them.
The attack, which was one year ago, ended with the capture of six of the terrorists and seizure of their weapons.
CP Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, Borno’s commissioner of police, who visited the scene, commended the officers for their resilience and condoles with the families of the two who lost their lives.
‘The command remains dedicated and committed to ensuring safety and security for all and calls for calm as normalcy has been restored,’ the statement added.
