A swarm of bees disrupted the ongoing National Examination Council (NECO) exam on Wednesday morning at Mairi Islamic Science Secondary School in Maiduguri, Borno State, forcing students and staff to flee the premises in panic.

Eyewitnesses described the chaotic scene as students abandoned their exam papers, shoes, school bags, and even bicycles while escaping the unexpected attack. The incident occurred while students were sitting for the Arabic Language paper.

“We were writing the exam when the bees suddenly came at us,” said one student. “There’s always been a hive in the school, but this is the first time they attacked.”

The incident has raised concerns over safety in schools, especially as it comes just days after a similar bee attack was reported at Shehu Sanda Kyarimi School along Bama Road.

Though no casualties were reported, the attack disrupted the smooth conduct of the examination, causing anxiety among students, teachers, and parents alike.

The Borno State Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, which oversees school operations, is yet to issue an official statement. However, the repeated incidents have prompted calls for urgent safety measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
