UCL: Timo Werner makes honest confession on Modric’s pass, Chelsea defeat

Chelsea striker, Timo Werner says the Blues must admit that Real Madrid scored two “very good goals” during their Champions League quarter-final second leg defeat on Tuesday.

The German striker also described the cross from Luka Modric that produced Real Madrid’s first goal as brilliant and hard to defend.

The Blues defeated La Liga giants 3-2 in Madrid but exited the Champions League 5-4 on aggregate after extra-time.

Werner, who scored Chelsea’s third of the night said he celebrated his goal thinking the match was done and dusted for the Blues.

“When I scored I thought ‘we are through with this’,” he said to Chelsea’s official website.

“To come back after a 3-1 defeat in the home game was very good for us, we had everything that we needed at 3-0 up, we had the chance to go through.

“Madrid have the quality to score against you and they showed it for the 3-1.

“I think it was a brilliant goal, a brilliant cross from Modric, hard to defend.”
