Communities in Yobe South Senatorial Zone have expressed divergent positions ahead of the 2027 governorship race, as political alignments within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) continue to evolve.
The KareKare, Bolawa, and Ngamo communities in Potiskum and Fika Local Government Areas have endorsed Baba Malam Wali as their preferred candidate to fly the party’s flag in the 2027 governorship election. The groups also distanced themselves from opposing positions within the zone.
An elder from one of the communities said the endorsement reflects appreciation for the party’s leadership and recent political developments.
“We are indebted to the APC and the government for producing one of us as the state party chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Gadaka. This is our time to reciprocate that gesture,” he said.
Speaking during the engagement, the Yobe State APC Chairman, Mohammed Gadaka, emphasised the importance of unity and collective responsibility among party members.
“This is my home base, and we have an obligation to ensure the success of the party and all APC candidates,” he stated.
In his response, Baba Malam Wali thanked the communities for their support and assured them of inclusive leadership if elected. He pledged to build on the policies and programmes of Governor Mai Mala Buni.
“I urge you all to contribute to the success of this movement so we can improve the lives of our people. It will be a government of inclusivity,” he said.
The endorsement comes amid reports of differing views within the zone, including opposition to Wali’s candidacy by Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai, who represents the Yobe South Senatorial District comprising Potiskum, Fika, Fune, and Nangere local government areas.
Political observers say the emerging endorsements highlight growing contestation within the APC as stakeholders position themselves ahead of the party’s primaries and the 2027 general election.
