Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, on Friday, April 10, 2026, received the Minister of Livestock Development, Musa Muktar Meya, at the Government House in Jalingo, as part of efforts to position the state as a hub for dairy production.
The minister led a delegation, including representatives of Pure Dairy Herd, on an exploratory visit to assess the feasibility of establishing a Livestock Academy and dairy farm in the state.
Speaking during the visit, the minister said the delegation was in Taraba to brief the state government on plans to develop a dairy-focused training and production facility. He noted that Taraba was selected due to its large livestock population and vast arable land suitable for dairy production.
In his response, Governor Kefas expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for considering Taraba for the initiative, describing the move as a major step toward boosting the state’s agricultural potential.
“With our abundant cattle population and expansive grazing land, Taraba is well positioned to lead livestock development and dairy production in Nigeria,” the governor said.
He reaffirmed the state government’s readiness to support the project and assured the delegation of adequate security and an enabling environment for investment.
A dairy production expert in the delegation, Mr. Gavel Don, outlined practical approaches through which the proposed academy could enhance productivity and generate revenue for both the state and the country.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Taraba State Livestock Development Commission described the proposed project as a significant milestone in the state’s drive toward economic diversification and agricultural development.
Further details on the proposed project are expected as consultations continue.
