Engr. Bamodu Yerima, MNSE, MCIWEM, stands as a shining example of excellence, discipline, and visionary leadership in the engineering profession. Currently serving as the Managing Director of Yobe Mining Development Company Limited (YMDCL), he has continued to distinguish himself as a transformative force in both administration and technical innovation.
A very disciplined and astute administrator with a proven track record of excellence, Engr. Yerima has, in less than a year, remarkably reshaped YMDCL into a more vibrant, efficient, and results-driven organization. Under his leadership, the company has witnessed renewed strategic direction, operational efficiency, and increased visibility within the mineral sector of Yobe State. His reforms have not only strengthened institutional capacity but have also positioned the state as an emerging hub for solid mineral development.
Notably, his impact on the mineral sector has been both historic and transformative. From a baseline of just nine identified mineral resources—based on the 2009 limestone-focused records—Engr. Yerima’s proactive and strategic leadership has led to the discovery and documentation of 44 mineral resources that are internationally marketable within the state. This remarkable expansion reflects a bold shift from limited exploration to a diversified and globally competitive mineral portfolio.
In synergy with his assumption of office and the strengthening of institutional frameworks within YMDCL, Engr. Yerima has successfully reorganized artisanal miners across the state—bringing structure, regulation, and empowerment to their operations. His administration has championed the industrialization of mineral resources, aligning local production with international standards and opening pathways to global markets.
Furthermore, under his leadership, YMDCL has entered into various Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with both local and international partners—fostering strategic collaborations that are significantly boosting investment, technology transfer, and capacity development in the mineral sector.
These achievements would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the government of Yobe State. Deep appreciation is extended to the State Government for its visionary backing, as well as to the Board of Directors of YMDCL for their steadfast guidance and commitment to excellence.
Special recognition is accorded to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, whose leadership, support, and dedication to economic diversification have created the enabling environment for these remarkable strides in the mineral sector.
