The All Progressives Congress, APC in Taraba State has convened a stakeholders’ meeting in Jalingo as part of preparations for the party’s forthcoming Ward Congress.
The meeting, held at Shield Hotel, brought together party leaders and key stakeholders to discuss guidelines and expectations ahead of the internal exercise.
Delivering a keynote address on behalf of Governor Agbu Kefas, Taraba State APC Chairman, Barrister Ibrahim Tukur El-Sudi, said the governor had directed him to formally notify party leaders and members about the upcoming congress and urged them to return to their respective wards to actively participate in the process.
According to El-Sudi, the governor emphasized that stakeholders must refrain from interfering in wards or local government areas other than their own. He stated that the Ward Congress should be conducted in a transparent, orderly, and grassroots-driven manner.
“All the official forms for the Ward Congress have been obtained by Governor Agbu Kefas and are currently with me. There is only one recognised form for the congress, and that is the form in our possession,” El-Sudi told the gathering.
He urged members to disregard any contrary information regarding the congress process, adding that the governor had no preferred candidate or special interest in the exercise.
El-Sudi further quoted the governor as reminding stakeholders that leadership positions are ultimately determined by divine will, referencing his previous emergence as state chairman of another political party and later as governor.
The meeting featured a question-and-answer session, during which stakeholders sought clarification on procedural guidelines and expectations ahead of the Ward Congress scheduled to hold soon.
However, some party members expressed reservations regarding the purchase of all the Ward Congress forms by the governor. Speaking on condition of anonymity, they raised concerns that the move could be perceived as limiting opportunities for other aspirants to obtain forms independently.
The members cautioned against any actions that might undermine internal democracy within the party and urged the leadership to ensure an open and inclusive process that allows all eligible members to participate freely.
