Troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade have successfully fought their way out of a Boko Haram ambush near Wajiroko, in the Azir-Multe axis of Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State. The soldiers came under intense fire while returning from a routine clearance patrol around the fringes of the Sambisa Forest.
The patrol, led by the Commander of the 25 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General M. Uba, comprised troops and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). According to military authorities, the team responded with superior firepower, forcing the insurgents to retreat in disarray and abandon their mission.
The Nigerian Army confirmed that two soldiers and two CJTF operatives were killed during the engagement. The Army High Command commended the gallantry of the troops and extended condolences to the families of the fallen personnel.
Meanwhile, the Army has dismissed reports circulating online suggesting that the Brigade Commander was abducted during the attack. The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, described the claim as “fake and misleading,” urging the public to disregard it.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, praised the resilience and courage of the troops who continue to operate in one of the country’s most volatile theatres of conflict.
He noted that their sacrifices remain a powerful reminder of the daily risks undertaken to safeguard Nigeria.
