Former Senator representing Adamawa North, Ishaku Abbo, has expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Nigerian Army for swiftly arresting a senior officer accused of assault, extortion, and abuse of office in Adamawa State.
In a statement issued on his social media page, Abbo alleged that the officer, identified as Lt. Col. Nwakama, had for months used his military rank and uniform to harass civilians, seize goods, and extort fuel dealers in Michika and Mubi.
According to Abbo, the officer was notorious for storming filling stations with armed soldiers, filling hundreds of gallons of fuel without payment, and reselling them for personal profit. He was also accused of forcibly collecting fertilizers from farmers, brutalizing fuel attendants, seizing CCTV equipment from petrol stations, and intimidating local dealers.
“He even shot a young boy in Mubi with an AK-47 for selling fuel on the roadside,” Abbo alleged.
The former senator revealed that following his petition and public outcry, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, ordered the deployment of over 50 military police personnel to Michika, leading to the officer’s arrest.
Abbo also commended the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) and senior military officers, including Major Generals Bitrus Kwaji, Smart Kangye, and Wambai, for supporting calls for a transparent investigation.
He pledged to make himself and witnesses available to testify in any Army barracks in Nigeria to ensure justice is served.
The Nigerian Army has yet to issue an official statement on the allegations, but military sources confirmed that an internal investigation has commenced.
