In a significant gesture of support for media education, the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University, Kashere, Professor Umar A. Pate, has donated 20 laptop computers to the newly upgraded Faculty of Communication and Media Studies at the University of Maiduguri.
The donation was made during a one-day interactive session organized by the Department of Mass Communication, in collaboration with the Northeast Zone of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) and the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters (SNB). The event brought together mass communication students from the University of Maiduguri, Borno State University, and Al-Ansar University.
Prof. Pate, a renowned communication scholar, presented the laptops to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, for onward delivery to the Faculty. He emphasized his commitment to supporting the growth of the faculty and enhancing its capacity to deliver globally competitive training in journalism and communication.
He noted that the laptops were part of broader efforts to equip students with the tools and knowledge necessary to thrive in a rapidly evolving media landscape.
The event was attended by senior members of the University of Maiduguri’s management, including the Registrar and Bursar. In his remarks, Vice-Chancellor Professor Mele commended Prof. Pate for his consistent support, generosity, and mentorship to young communication professionals. He pledged the university’s continued commitment to advancing the faculty and its programs.
Dr. Abdulmutallib A. Abubakar, Head of the Department of Mass Communication and Northeast Deputy President of ACSPN, expressed deep appreciation to Professor Pate. He assured that the laptops would be used effectively to foster digital literacy and 21st-century skills among students.
