Soldiers from the 241 Recce Battalion stationed in Nguru have reportedly assaulted an official of the Yobe Road Transport Authority (YOROTA), leaving him critically injured and hospitalized at the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru.

The victim, identified as Yunusa Mohammed, is currently battling for his life following the brutal attack which occurred earlier today.

According to eyewitness accounts, the incident began when YOROTA officials stopped a soldier riding a motorcycle as part of their routine duty. The soldier, angered by the stop, allegedly slapped one of the officials.

In retaliation, the soldier reportedly called for reinforcements, arriving in two tricycles (Keke NAPEP) with other military personnel. The group then stormed the YOROTA office in Nguru, allegedly vandalizing property and assaulting multiple staff members.

Sources revealed that the soldiers beat the officials without restraint, only stopping after local authorities intervened.

The incident has sparked outrage in the community, with calls for a thorough investigation and accountability to prevent further abuse of power. Neither the Nigerian Army nor the Yobe State Government has issued an official statement on the matter as of the time of filing this report.
