Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has extended heartfelt sympathies to the government and people of Niger State over the recent flood disaster that ravaged Mokwa Local Government Area, resulting in the loss of lives, destruction of properties, and displacement of residents.
During a courtesy visit to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago at the Niger State Government House in Minna on Tuesday, Governor Zulum announced a donation of ₦300 million to support relief efforts for the affected communities.
The Borno State Governor said the gesture was aimed at complementing the efforts of the Niger State Government in managing the aftermath of the devastating floods. He also conveyed the solidarity and condolences of the government and people of Borno State.
“This disaster is a reminder of the urgency for subnational governments to work collaboratively in mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change. We must prioritize proactive disaster response and sustainable development,” Zulum stated.
In his response, Governor Bago expressed deep appreciation for Governor Zulum’s visit and generous support. He described the donation as timely and reflective of true brotherhood between the two states.
“This is not just an act of generosity; it is a demonstration of genuine concern and solidarity. Borno and Niger share deep ties, and I commend Governor Zulum’s passion, resilience, and commitment to good governance,” Governor Bago said.
He further assured that the funds would be judiciously utilized and emphasized ongoing advocacy to encourage residents to relocate from vulnerable coastal areas to reduce the risk of future disasters.
Governor Zulum was accompanied by Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Members of the House of Representatives Hon. Bukar Talba and Hon. Abdulkarim Rahis, as well as the Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Engr. Abdullahi Askira.
In a separate visit, Governor Zulum led a delegation to Adamawa State to condole with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and the people of the state over the passing of elder statesman, Professor Jibril Aminu.

Zulum described the late Professor Aminu as a proud son of Borno and a towering figure in Nigeria’s educational and political landscape, whose contributions left an indelible mark on the nation.
Accompanying Governor Zulum on the condolence visit was prominent businessman and Chairman of Oriental Energy, Alhaji Mohammed Indimi.
In his remarks, Governor Fintiri thanked the delegation for their solidarity and described the death of Professor Aminu as a monumental loss not only to Adamawa but to Nigeria as a whole.
