The Yobe State Government, through its Durable Solutions Secretariat and the State Technical Working Committee, recently welcomed the Country Director of Save the Children International (SCI), Mr. Duncan Harvey, on an official visit to Damaturu, in a bid to strengthen partnerships aimed at delivering long-term support to displaced populations across the state.
The high-level engagement underscores SCI’s continued commitment to supporting Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and returnees, with a focus on localization, child protection, education, and sustainable livelihoods.
The strategic meeting, jointly convened by SCI and the state government was designed to align humanitarian efforts with the Yobe State Action Plan on Durable Solutions. Key civil society actors and humanitarian partners were also in attendance, ensuring coordination, avoiding duplication of efforts, and reinforcing local ownership of recovery processes.
Speaking during the meeting, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) emphasized the importance of unified efforts, noting that strong collaboration among stakeholders enhances the impact of interventions and helps build the resilience of affected communities.
“We must continue to ensure that all partners work in sync with the state’s priorities. Coordination is key to strengthening local capacity and delivering sustainable solutions for our displaced populations,” he said.
During his visit, Mr. Duncan Harvey reviewed ongoing SCI projects across Yobe State and expressed satisfaction with the progress made. He reaffirmed SCI’s commitment to supporting the implementation of the State Action Plan through joint assessments and collaborative programming with the Durable Solutions Secretariat.
“We are committed to working with the Yobe State Government to ensure that displaced families and children receive the support they need not just in the short term but in ways that foster long-lasting recovery and self-reliance,” Mr. Harvey stated.
The visit marks another milestone in Yobe State’s efforts to transition from emergency aid to long-term development and recovery for communities affected by conflict and displacement.
