The Yobe State Police Command has announced key arrests in two separate cases involving commercial tricycle operators, highlighting ongoing efforts to tackle crimes in the state.
According to a press statement issued on May 13, 2025, a 25-year-old commercial tricyclist, Idriss Yakubu of Shengele Village in Fune Local Government Area, was arrested for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl. The suspect reportedly lured the victim into the bush before committing the assault. Following his arrest, Yakubu confessed to the crime during police interrogation.
In a separate operation, four suspects were apprehended for criminal conspiracy and theft. Identified as Abubakar Barnawa (28), Mohd Modu (20), Umar Mustapha (18), and Musa Hassan (19), the group allegedly used a tricycle with a forged registration number to commit fraud against a local trader. Swift police response led to their capture, and investigations are currently ongoing.
Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, condemned both incidents, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, especially those involving commercial transport operators.
“The command is committed to ensuring that justice prevails and that no criminal act goes unpunished,” he assured.
The Yobe State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and encouraged residents to report any form of abuse or criminal behavior through appropriate channels.
