London witnessed a wave of protest on Monday, May 12, 2025, as hundreds of Nigerians rallied outside the Nigerian High Commission and the UK Home Office, calling for the immediate deportation of former Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Group CEO, Mele Kyari.

Organized under the civil advocacy group Rescue Nigeria Now (RNN), the demonstrators submitted formal petitions to both the Nigerian and British authorities, urging action against Kyari, who they allege is evading corruption investigations back home.

Chanting slogans and waving placards with messages such as “Withdraw Mele Kyari’s residency now!”, “Mele Kyari, go home and face the EFCC now!”, and “London is not for public officials who abused public trust,” the protesters accused Kyari of hiding in the UK to escape justice.

The protest highlights growing public frustration over perceived impunity among Nigeria’s elite and the demand for international cooperation in holding alleged corrupt officials accountable.
