Police nab 40-year-old notorious Gangstar, recovers police rifles in Taraba

The Taraba State Police Command have arrested a notorious kidnapper and recovered a cache of arms, including a rifle stolen from the command.

A Statement by the Spokesman of the command James Lansen says acting on credible information on Saturday April 18th, 2025 operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID) in collaboration with a Local Vigilante’ group apprehended the bandit 40-year-old Umar Ahmad at a roadblock in Jalingo.

 James Leshen adds that the suspect, from London Maidoro in Gombe State had been on the police wanted list for several months.

“After his arrest, Ahmad led investigators to Mayo Faran village in Mayo Belwa LGA, a border community between Taraba and Adamawa States where search two AK-47 rifles with serial numbers 1985 PT2021 and 08893, eight magazines, and thirty-nine live rounds of ammunitions were recovered,” the statement added.

The Command said it also discovered that one of the recovered rifles, with serial number 08893, is a property of the Taraba State Police Command

which was among those stolen during a deadly ambush in 2025 in which suspected kidnappers attacked a police anti-kidnapping unit attempting to rescue Chief of Kwaji Alhaji Buba Nyala, a Second-class Chief   in Yorro Local Government Area.

The ambush resulted in the death of ASP Aminu Nuhu, during which the bandits took away the rifle.
