Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has expressed deep concern over the escalating Boko Haram attacks in the state, calling for urgent action from the federal government and security agencies.

The governor made the statement today during the state’s monthly expanded security meeting held at the Government House Council Chamber in Maiduguri.

He highlighted that recent attacks on Sabongari, Damboa, Wulgo, Baga, and Monguno have heightened fears of a resurgence in insurgent activities, stressing the need for stronger security measures.

Zulum urged the federal government to prioritize security in the North East, particularly Borno State, which shares borders with Chad, Cameroon, and Niger.

‘The current focus on fighting insecurity has shifted from the northeast, potentially reversing the gains made so far,’ the governor warned.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Prof. Usman Tar, Borno State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, emphasized that the armed forces should go beyond static checkpoints and town patrols.

‘Security forces must engage in relentless patrols, picketing, and decapitation missions to decisively end the insurgency,’ Tar stated.

He reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting security agencies in combating terrorism while also focusing on development and peacebuilding programs.

‘This administration will continue to work closely with the armed forces to promote agriculture, sustainable livelihoods, and economic recovery—key components of our post-insurgency strategy,’ he added.

The Borno State government has called on the federal authorities to take decisive action to curb the rising wave of terrorist attacks and prevent further destabilization in the region.
