The Yobe State Government, through the Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC) in Yobe State University, has extended its ongoing kidney disease research to Damaturu the state capital to better understand potential risk factors and improve public health interventions.

Dr. Mahmoud Bukar Maina, Special Adviser on Science, Research, and Innovation to Governor Mai Mala Buni, said that this phase of study is not because Damaturu is a high-risk area, but rather to serve as a comparison to Gashua, where a higher number of cases have been recorded.

“We are investigating kidney health in different communities, including Damaturu, to identify potential risk factors and learn what may be protecting some populations. This will help us generate the best possible strategies to prevent and manage kidney disease in Yobe State,” Maina explained.

Dr. Maina also expressed gratitude to Gov. Buni, for his unwavering commitment to tackling kidney disease in the state.

The team urges Damaturu residents to support this vital initiative by participating in the screening process, as their involvement will help shape future health solutions for the entire state.
