The Federal Government, through its regulatory agency, National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, (NAFDAC), has shut down five unregistered sachet water factories in Yunusari Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The State Coordinator of the Regulatory Agency in Yobe State, Lawan Musa Dadingelma, disclosed this to newsmen in Damaturu.

He said the factories were shut down during a routine inspection carried out in border communities with the Niger Republic due to poor manufacturing practices and not following due process in registering the affected factories.

“We were in Yunusari; about 100 kilometres to Niger Republic. We sealed off many unregistered factories, confiscated their wares and locked down the places. We advised them to come and register with NAFDAC.

“The operators thought due to the insurgency NAFDAC could not visit the place, but we took them by surprise, we were there, and we closed down five unregistered products,” he said.

According to him, after the recent operation, sachet water operators were coming to the NAFDAC office to have their factories regulated before starting operation in line with the water treatment procedures outlined by NAFDAC.

The coordinator commended the Divisional Police Officer of Yunusari for assisting the agency to carry out the operation.
