Police arrest 1005 suspects, rescue 171 kidnapped victims, 600 rustled animals in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command says in the last four months, from the 1st of June to 30th September, 2023, it arrested a total of 1005 suspects in connection with 853 reported criminal cases.

The Command said of the 1005 cases, 395 cases are currently undergoing prosecution in various competent courts within Katsina State.

The Command also said it successfully rescued 171 kidnapped victims, neutralised five suspected kidnappers and recovered a substantial amount of weapons, including 4 AK-47 rifles, 6 locally made guns, and 517 live rounds of ammunition within the same period.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Abubakar Sadiq, the Public Relations Officer (PPRO), on behalf of Commissioner of Police Aliyu Abubakar Musa, disclosed this during a press conference held on Monday at the Katsina State Police Command Headquarters.

Out of the 1005 suspects, ASP Sadiq said 53 were arrested for robbery, 82 for kidnapping, 73 for murder, 90 for rape while another 707 were apprehended for various offences, including possession of illegal drugs, cultism, inciting disturbance, and gang-related activities.

Also within the period under review, the Katsina Police PRO disclosed that the Command recovered over 600 suspected rustled animals and a significant number of stolen motor vehicles and motorcycles.

The Command also seized the following drugs within the period under review, 568 sachets of D5 tablets, 180 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 23 packets of Exzole tablets, 411 packets of rebozel tablets, and 5 packs of Diezole tablets.
