Taraba NLC elects new leaders

The Nigeria Labour Congress NLC Taraba State Chapter has elected new officials to run the affairs of the Union for the next four years at the 8th, State Delegates Conference with the theme “Building People’s Power, National Unity and quest for a new Social Order” at the Jolly Nyameh Stadium, Jalingo.

Those elected are Comrade Peter D. Jediel of Medical and Health Workers Union Chairman, Solomon Nathan Vice Chairman, Solomon Danladi Nathaniel Vice, Chairman, Moseh Luka Treasurer, Bashir Adamu Auditor, Mohammed Usman Auditor, Keziah Adi Dawuda Ex-officio and Mary Francis Mandal Ex-officio.

Declaring the results the returning officer from the NLC National Headquarters Comrade Garba Ibrahim said Comrade Peter D. Jediel won the chairmanship position with 458 votes defeating Philip Danladi Umar of RATTAWU who got 35 votes while all the other offices were contested unopposed.

The returning officer who is the National President of Beverages and Tobacco Employees Union thanked Taraba State Workers for their support and maturity and congratulated the new officials for their success urging them to justify the confidence reposed in them.

In his acceptance speech the new Chairman Comrade Peter D.Jediel thanked members of the Union in the State for electing them and promised to carry every body along calling on them to give the new leadership all the support to enable it serve them effectively.

In his good will message at the delegates conference Governorship candidate of the PDP in Taraba State Lt. Col. Kefas Agbu rt. appreciated the unity and resilience of workers for standing on the path of truth and justice and promised to unite the people of Taraba State if elected as Governor.

Kefas noted that “Taraba State is in perilius time that needs people with the fear of God and compassion when you are suffering then you know that you don’t have the right person let the election be peaceful and credible so that we come together for a new Taraba”.

He said when he is elected, “Salaries, Pension and gratuity must be paid as at when due while all outstanding arrears of entitlements of workers will be settled to remove the burden on the Government to enable the new Government move ahead.”. In his message, APC Gubernatarial candidate Senator Emmanuel Bwacha congradulated workers for the delegates conference pledging to do the needful in the State if elected as Governor.

Represented by a veteran Labour leader a former NLC Chairman in Taraba State Comrade Silas Jafta Senator Emmanuel Bwacha urged Taraba Workers to let the delegates election be peaceful and perfect saying that NLC leadership is not easy especially if you are not on the side of the Government.

Director Federal Ministry of Labour, Chairman TUC Taraba State, Chairman Joint Negotiating Council Taraba State in their fraternity messages wished the workers a successful delegates conference and pledged their support to the leadership of NLC in Taraba State.
