midst the controversies that followed the local government election that was held on April 11, 33 out of the 34 elected chairmen are being sworn in, 7 years since the last time the state had elected council officials.

After administering the Oath of Office and Allegiance to the 33 council bosses by the Chief Judge, Justice Musa Danladi, said they should do same to the 350 elected councilors, in their respective local government areas.

Governor Aminu Masari, shortly after, charged them to be prudent, seek ways to improve revenue generation and ensure the security of lives and property in their domains.

According to Masari, “One of the major challenges you will face as chairmen is the issue of inadequate revenue accruing to the areas.

Currently, most of the local government areas can only pay salaries and allowances to their people, without any balance to do developmental projects for the people, and some cannot maintain staff salaries, given a large number of staff and inadequate revenue accruing to the council”.

The Governor also tasked them to improve revenue-generating mechanisms and block leakages, through the engagement of professionals within the council or elsewhere.

Masari further told the chairmen to be transparent, operate an open door policy, carry the people along, and ensure judicious utilization of public funds, as it is the cardinal point of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The chairman of Danmusa Local Government Area, Sanusi Abbas, whose area is faced with the activities of terrorists, alongside ten others, said having served as a Caretaker Chairman previously, they will ensure the restoration of peace.

Only one local government area of Dutsinma had its election cancelled, over irregularities, even as the major opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had threatened to seek redress in court, while rejecting the conduct of the elections.
