Troops Recover 12.1m Litres Of Stolen Oil In Niger Delta

Nigerian troops of Operation Delta Safe have recovered 12.1 million litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and 4,000 liters of stolen crude oil between March 25 and April 7, 2022 in Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa states, this was revealed by the Director of the Nigerian Army defence media operations, Bernard Onyeuko.

He said that the troops bursted and destroyed 30 illegal refining sites with 37 reservoirs, 31 ovens, 12 large wooden boats, two cooling systems, three receivers, three storage pits and metal drums, the troops also recovered three tankers, three vehicles, 73 galvanized pipes, two motorcycles, one bus, one Toyota Camry and a Mercedes Benz car.

Onyeuko said the troops arrested and handed over to the appropriate authorities two suspects associated with vandalism and stealing of high-tension cables, he added that the Nigerian Navy had recorded a milestone in indigenous systematic survey and charting of the nation’s offshore waters, further explained that the troops have continued to dominate the oil-rich zone and conducted anti-crude oil theft and anti-illegal oil bunkering related operations at different locations in Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa States.

He further revealed that a special operation tagged “Operation Dakatar Da Barawo,” aimed at curbing crude oil theft and illegal oil bunkering in the Niger Delta area, kicked off at Onne Port in Port Harcourt on April 1.
