Without NEPA Ramadan in April, the hottest month, in Maiduguri

One of the hottest and most overstretched places in Nigeria, the biggest IDP host community.

How does Yola Electricity Distribution Company make money? After more than a year a year of being off the national grid in Maiduguri, we’re still without power even though we’re back on the grid.

Of course they have their reasons, logical too, just like the devil had his reasons for disobeying God, logical reasons.

Local power distribution infrastructure is broken down. For one year they abandoned the transformers, power lines and other stuff, to the elements and criminal activity, they didn’t fix this in anticipation of the national grid coming back on, in three months they’ve failed to fix it.

How are they making money? Are they still enjoying the perks of owning an essential national asset? Are they being compensated by government for the loss in revenue due to insecurity? The law protects their business from competition. Where is society’s due?

What are the local government chairpersons doing? Where is the state house of assembly? How about the state executive? National assembly members, reps and senators? Is government still paying for their electricity?

If somehow NNPC’s officially sanctioned rumour of a power plant becomes operational, or by some stroke of luck the laws are amended to allow private power generation, and for example Alhaji Indimi takes it up, how will electricity be distributed?

Of course they will have answers to explain why we don’t have power to buy. Fire should not bow down to clay, according to the devil.
I suppose the current arrangement suits them just fine. They’re making money.

So help them God. And the common man too.
