The Yobe State Police Command has launched an investigation into a disturbing case of grave desecration in Jakusko, where unknown individuals allegedly exhumed and removed a corpse from the Makwalla area cemetery.

According to the report filed on 13 November 2025 by a resident, Wakili Gambo, officers from the Jakusko Division visited the scene alongside community leaders and confirmed that the grave had been tampered with and the body taken away. The Command has since intensified checks on other graves to ensure no further violations have occurred.

Condemning the act, the Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command, CP Emmanuel Ado, described the incident as “cannibalistic, diabolical, and a gross affront to human dignity and the sanctity of the dead.” He assured that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The Command called on residents to support ongoing investigations by providing credible information, report suspicious movements around burial sites, and work with authorities to strengthen community-based security around cemeteries.
