As the 2027 general elections draw closer, political discussions across Yobe State are becoming increasingly vibrant, with public attention focused on who will take over from Governor Mai Mala Buni. The question of succession remains open, and conversations continue to dominate political circles, traditional institutions, and community gatherings across the state. Yobe, divided into Zones A, B, and C, has seen the emergence of several notable figures whose names consistently surface in public discourse as potential contenders for the governorship seat.

From Zone C (Yobe North), former Senate President Ahmad Lawan remains one of the most prominent personalities associated with the race. His extensive national experience and deep political structures make him a major figure in the conversation. In Zone B (Yobe South), Senator Ibrahim Bomai, who is currently serving in the National Assembly also stands as a significant potential candidate, with many pointing to his legislative achievements and constituency engagements. Zone A (Yobe East) features Senator Musa, whose representation of the region places him among the leading contenders as well. The state’s longest-serving Secretary to the State Government (SSG) further enriches the pool, with his administrative experience drawing the interest of political observers.

However, beyond these long-established political actors, a new and dynamic figure has captured the attention of many particularly the youth across Yobe State. Dr. Babagana Mohammed Adam, the Managing Director of the Nigeria Food Corporation and an indigene of Gujba LGA in Zone A, has emerged as a fresh and compelling voice in the unfolding political landscape. His name has gained significant traction in recent months, with increasing mentions in public debates, media conversations, and youth-led political dialogues. Many see in him a blend of technocratic competence, administrative experience, and a modern approach to leadership that aligns with the aspirations of Yobe’s younger population.

Dr. Babagana Adam’s rising profile reflects a broader shift in the state’s political mood, where young people are advocating for leaders who bring innovation, integrity, and fresh energy into governance. His achievements in public service and his reputation for professionalism have positioned him as a standout figure among the growing list of potential gubernatorial contenders. As the political atmosphere continues to evolve, many observers believe that the 2027 elections may become one of the most competitive in Yobe’s history one in which Dr. Babagana Mohammed Adam is increasingly seen not just as a participant, but as a shining figure whose emergence could redefine the future of leadership in the state.
