De-Advocates for Justice Human Rights Organisation has accused the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, of carrying out a vendetta against human rights activist Omoyele Sowore.
In a statement issued in Warri, the group’s president, Comrade Israel Joe, condemned what he described as “vindictiveness” over alleged moves to scrutinize Sowore’s financial records. He warned that civil society groups may occupy the court in solidarity with Sowore to demand justice.
Joe described the action as “an antique of the ruling class to silence dissenting voices,” adding that attempts to use the court process against the activist were counter-productive.
The rights advocate also recalled his own ordeal during the #EndHardshipProtest in Delta State, alleging that police attempted to implicate him by probing his financial records. “I was detained for hours, but they found nothing,” he said.
