In a major relief effort, the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), in collaboration with Action Against Hunger (ACF), has disbursed over ₦80 million in cash-for food assistance to 898 households affected by windstorms and floods across Fika, Potiskum, and Fune Local Government Areas (LGAs).

The emergency intervention—part of the Food Security and Livelihood (FSL) programme—targets vulnerable families struggling in the aftermath of extreme weather events earlier this year.

Breakdown of Beneficiaries by LGA and Disaster Type:

  • Fika: 329 households (windstorm victims) — Disbursement completed August 28
  • Potiskum: 340 households (windstorm and flood victims) — Disbursement ongoing
  • Fune: 229 households (windstorm and flood victims) — Disbursement completed

“These interventions reaffirm our commitment to restoring hope and rebuilding lives,” said Dr. Goje. “We commend Action Against Hunger for consistently aligning with government efforts and supporting our vulnerable communities.”

He added that the food assistance initiative complements earlier cash-for-rent support, creating a more holistic recovery process for affected families.

SEMA reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with humanitarian partners, local communities, and government agencies to continue delivering lifesaving support and build long-term resilience across the state.
