Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Wednesday led his colleagues from the North-East to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where they appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritise the completion of 17 strategic road projects and resume oil exploration in the Kolmani and Lake Chad basins.
The delegation included Governors Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), and Agbu Kefas (Taraba).
Speaking on behalf of the forum, Zulum, who chairs the North-East Governors Forum, highlighted the importance of the road projects in boosting trade, connectivity, and security across the six states. He listed the priority roads, including Kano–Maiduguri Road, Bama–Mubi–Yola Road, Wukari–Jalingo–Yola Road, Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Damaturu Road, Damaturu–Geidam Road, and Maiduguri–Monguno–Baga Road, among others.
He also pressed for renewed oil exploration in the frontier wells, noting that such investments would not only boost energy security but also accelerate economic development in the sub-region.
“We thank you, Mr. President, for fostering peace and stability within the sub-region. We are fully aligned with your renewed hope agenda and are committed to partnering with your administration to reverse insecurity, promote agriculture, and strengthen food security,” Zulum said.
President Tinubu, in his response, acknowledged the governors’ concerns and assured them of his administration’s readiness to support infrastructure development and accelerate progress in the region.
