CBN extends date of expiration of old Naira notes

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN has extended the deadline for the use of old Naira notes.

Godwin Emefiele, the CBN governor announced the extension in a statement on Sunday.

This was confirmed on Sunday morning by Bashir Ahmad, one of President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokespersons on Twitter.

According to him, the apex bank added ten more days to the initial deadline.

The new expiry date is now February 10, this year.

However, this is coming less than 24 hours after the Red Chamber of the national assembly adopted a motion to order the CBN to extend it..

The senate recommended six more months for the usage and swapping of the old Naira notes.

The Naira notes are N1,000, N500 and N200 respectively.
